Dibakar Banerjee’s films have had a very distinct Delhi background, but his next is a tribute to his hometown Kolkata
It seems that Dibakar Banerjee is in some kinda hurry. His forthcoming film
Shanghai is yet to hit theatres and he has already chalked out plans for his next venture. We heard that Banerjee has got Abhay Deol and Neetu Chandra, actors from his film
Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, on board for the new detective thriller.
Banerjee, who has always described himself as a Bengali-Punjabi from Delhi, has titled the film
Kolkata to pay homage to his hometown. Apparently this is the second film in the director’s ‘Phantom-city’ series. But we wonder why he has no plans of shooting the film in Kolkata. Maybe, just like the sequences in
Shanghai were not shot in the Chinese capital, the same will apply for
Kolkata. As
Shanghai is in post-production, Banerjee has started writing the screenplay of his new flick with his partner-in-crime, Urmi Juvekar (co-writer, Shanghai). Our birdie tells us that the dishy Abhay Deol will be seen in the role of a suave detective working on a rather challenging case. We read that Banerjee wishes to reinvent the detective thriller genre in Bollywood. Wethinks this is very exciting and with Deol Jr on board, the team will deliver a good film for sure! What do you think?
