Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas

Director: Todd Strauss-Schulson Cast:Kal Penn, John Cho, Neil Patrick Harris
Rating: **
Marijuana smoke, mounds of cocaine and little, bitty Ecstasy pills. Urine, feces and semen. Topless nuns, stoned kids and a bloody Santa Claus. And of course, a singing and dancing Neil Patrick Harris.
These are among the many things that get thrown at the wall -- sometimes literally -- in 'A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas'.Very few of them stick. This third film in the 'Harold & Kumar' franchise is inordinately jacked up with visual effects and peppy holiday music, but nothing can disguise the fact that this series has run out of steam, that the film's stars have outgrown the roles that made them famous.
Even references to the celebrity they've achieved outside these movies -- that John Cho played Sulu in J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' and Kal Penn worked for President Obama's administration in the White House Office of Public Engagement -- feel too cute. And as is so often the case, they're just not all that funny. Much of the humor comes from the same tired, repetitive stoner shtick. The main difference is that when someone takes a long hit off a bong (or joint or pipe), the smoke comes wafting toward you from the screen.
Yes, the use of 3-D is super gimmicky, but hey, at least director Todd Strauss-Schulson is consistent in staying with it the whole way through in making his first feature. Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote the 2004 cult hit 'Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle' and wrote and directed the 2008 sequel 'Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay', are credited with the screenplay, but very little of the original daring and verve remains.
By this point, Cho's Harold and Penn's Kumar have grown apart. Harold is a Wall Street big shot (with the obligatory protestors chanting outside his window) living a comfortable suburban life and trying to have a baby with his wife, Maria (Paula Garces). Kumar, meanwhile, remains disheveled and stoned all day in his rundown apartment, having been kicked out of medical school for failing a drug test.
A convoluted set of circumstances involving deflowering a virgin, finding the perfect Christmas tree and outsmarting Ukrainian mobsters creates the opportunity for these two old friends to reconcile. They also get a chance to reunite with Harris, who revisits the role that helped reinvigorate his career: a fictionalized, drugged-up, hyper-sexualized (and voraciously straight) version of himself. Harris smoothly rides a fine line between smiling, preening TV star and scheming, predatory fiend. When he's on screen, there's an exciting and even dangerous air about the movie that's missing elsewhere, with the raunchiness of the R-rated comedy now seeming so pervasive and tame.
A couple of other elements to point out in this hodgepodge of cinematic styles and silly subplots: a Claymation sequence when the pals go on a bad drug trip that's darkly paranoid and good for a few laughs; and the Wafflebot, a talking droid that serves fresh waffles and loyally follows its owner. You don't have to have the munchies to enjoy it, but being under the influence of something might make the film a lot more effective. 'A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas', a Warner Bros. release, is rated R for strong crude and sexual content, graphic nudity, pervasive language, drug use and some violence. Running time: 90 minutes.

Zarine undergoes surgery for appendicitis

Actress Zarine Khan was operated for appendicitis recently after she complained of acute stomach pain on the sets of 'Housefull 2' here. The starlet who made her Bollywood debut in Salman Khan starrer 'Veer' was diagnosed with the problem and needed immediate medical care. She was rushed to undergo surgery while shooting at Filmistan for the multi-starrer directed by Sajid Khan.
Concerned over how they would manage to shoot given her absence, Zarine was a little sceptical. However, the rest of the cast insisted on the surgery, were very accommodating and moved their dates around, sources said. Sajid said, "Zarine is an absolute delight to work with. When she told me about her operation, I requested a change in schedule from other actors. They all obliged, as everybody is very fond of her."

Kareena’s Hair Dresser Styling Her Wax Statue At Mademe Tussauds

Kareena Kapoor‘s wax figure was unveiled at Madam Tussauds on October 26, on the day of the release of her mega budget movie Ra. One. Kareena’s mother Babita accompanied her daughter at the event. We have already brought the pictures and the pics here.
However, an interesting thing we came to know is that, Kareena’s personal hair dresser, Pompy Hans, did the styling for the wax statue! Who else is better to do this job than her real life hair dresser? Along with this amusing piece of news, we have couple of pictures as well.

Hrithik Roshan – The Muscle Man!

Hrithik Roshan was very keen on having a muscular body right from his first movie and that was one of the reasons (besides his drop-dead good looks, of course) for him to have large number of female fans. These days, almost all the actors (be it new comers or established ones) have a good body and it has almost become a pre-requisite – well, all thanks to Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan etc. So it’s always a pleasure to see the original muscle man in his well-toned form, isn’t it? Take a look at the pic – Yes, we know, he looks amazing!
For those who are looking forward to a beefy Hrithik, his next movie, Agneepath, which is all set to get released in January 2012, will have him in his beefy best!

Loot Movie Review

Reviewed by Anna.M.M. Vetticad
Release date: November 4, 2011
Director: Raj Thakur
Cast: Govinda, Suneil Shetty, Jaaved Jaaferi, Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Prem Chopra, Dalip Tahil, Ravi Kissen, Mahesh Manjrekar, Mika, Kim Sharma
To fully fathom the bankruptcy of thought & the surfeit of cash in Bollywood these days, watch Loot! The film is about four crooks – Pandit (Govinda), Builder (Suneil Shetty), Akbar (Jaaved Jaaferi) and Wilson (Mahaakshay Chakraborty) – who are sent off to Pattaya to rob a house filled with valuables, but discover when they get there that they are in the home of the dreaded gangster Lala (Mahesh Manjrekar) who, as it turns out, is out to kill the don of Pattaya (Prem Chopra) and is being investigated by an unscrupulous cop (Ravi Kissen) who intends to use the evidence to blackmail Lala. That’s it – the story does not deserve more than one sentence!
Nor does this film deserve a cogent review. But I do have some questions for the team of Loot:
1. Why did anyone bother to make this film?
2. Why is Govinda (the only bright spark in this film) ruining our happy memories of the high points of his career by acting in such utter rubbish? If the industry no longer offers you halfway decent films, isn’t it better to retire or bide your time till something better comes along?
3. Why did this talented actor destroy his own career with his tardiness, his weight gain and what we’re told was extreme unprofessional behaviour although he’s said to be a nice guy? Will we ever again get to see Govinda – one of the funniest guys Hindi filmdom has ever known – in a worthwhile film?
4. Why doesn’t the industry have better films for Jaaved Jaaferi who too can be funny given a good, well-written role?
5. Does Suneil Shetty still think he can act?
6. Does The Artist Formerly Known As Mimoh believe that a change of name to Mahaakshay is more important than voice training?
7. Could someone tell the writer of this film to forget asinine language stereotypes of the sort that assume that Hindus say dhanyavad, Muslims say shukriya and Christians say thank you?
8. Could the director please tell me why his quartet of goons crawled down the railings of a multi-storeyed building’s fire escape instead of running down the steps during one scene?
9. Has anyone on the team of Loot heard of not-so-minor issues such as continuity? Wasn’t any production assistant monitoring the shooting of that scene in which Ravi Kissen is shown wearing one earring but in close-ups that were clearly shot later, he’s wearing two earrings and his hair is shorter?
10. Was there some significance to the scenes involving a doddering old man in a restaurant? Is old age meant to be funny?
11. (This one’s for the reader) Do you know Kim Sharma still acts in films?
12. Rakhi Sawant features in an item song right at the end. Why is her face frozen stiff?
13. And (apologies for repeating myself but I can’t help it) why did anyone bother to make this film?<
Rating (out of five): 1/2 star (only for Govinda)
CBFC Rating: U/A with cuts (The Censor Board banned Mika’s song Mere iss pe and got the words “choos le” beeped out from Rakhi Sawant’s item number Bank loot le)
Running time: 120 Minutes
Language: Hindi
