Yesterday 41 year old Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was anointed 10th Nawab of Pataudi in an official ceremony at his ancestral home, Ibrahim Palace. The ceremony involved the heads of 52 villages tying a white turban around Saif Ali Khan’s head. His mother and sisters were present at the ceremony, as well as Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Girlfriend Kareena Kapoor couldn’t attend the ceremony, as she was busy shooting for Reema Kagti’s film opposite Aamir Khan in London.
Saif succeeds his father Mansoor Ali Khan, who passed away on September 22nd, due to a chronic lung infection. Saif accepted the title as a gesture to honour the tradition, but doesn’t want to be addressed as Nawab. The actor prefers his father to be remembered as the Nawab of Pataudi. The title is not recognized by the government anymore.
Saif’s responsibilities now include taking care of his ancestral home, as well as the charity projects of his family.
